Raw Whey Challenge!

One World Whey

An acquaintance of mine here in Austin, TX suggested I try incorporating “Raw” whey protein for its remarkable health benefits and strengthening properties that it has in the entire body: immune booster, lean muscle building properties, and increased energy levels to name a few. I’m always willing to test out new products on myself (n=1 method) to learn and explore the possibility that they can benefit my health and improve my athletic performance.  The notion is that cold-processed whey retains a range of bioactive properties and loads of glutathione which forms when 3 unique amino acids, cysteine, glycine, and glutamate, combine which are not present in denatured whey isolate proteins on the market today.

Glutathione acts as the “mother” antioxidant that helps literally every cell in the body to boost immune response, stimulate liver function, and help reduce muscular fatigue during intense training.  Also very important, the raw whey should also come completely from grassfed, pastured cows (in this case from Amish country in northern New York State).

Fortunately, my friend Arttemis, owner of natural foods company called New Earth Superconscious Living Foods, specializes in raw foods and had some One World Whey in stock. Over the course of the next 2 months, I’m going to be taking it every day to see if I notice any of the benefits.

Taste: Amazing, creamy, like a vanilla milkshake

Performance: Faster recovery and great bounce back after long runs and HIT and circuit training

Cost: $$$  (This is certainly the one drawback as the cost is nearly $150 per container)

Here’s the method I’ve been using for optimal whey intake:

1/2 frozen banana

1 cup almond milk

1 tsp cinnamon

1 scoop (30 g) protein powder

pinch himalayan sea salt (for trace minerals, electrolytes and flavor enhancement)

Blend, enjoy!

Anyone have any protein shake recipes of their own? Feel free to share 🙂

Always going for glory,

One World Whey is bar none, best protein on the market as far a nutritional benefits (glutmaine content, amino acid profile) and taste (like a milkshake!). The drawback of course would be the price.

If you are looking for a cheaper but high quality whey (not raw though) I like the NOW brand whey isolate.
